Step 1- Body Mass Index
Is your current weight healthy?
The key to weight control is that we must burn off all the calories that we take in if we are to maintain our current weight. Any excess calories will be saved as fat, so the bottom line for contolling our weight as the years go by is simply to eat less and move more.
The Body Mass Index (BMI) describes relative weight for height. It is determined by dividing the weight (in kilograms) by the square of the height (in meters).
Healthy weight falls between a BMI of 18.5 and 24.9, with underweight below 18.5 and overweight above 25, with the midpoint reflecting a BMI of 22.5.
Go to the BMI calculator provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and calculate your own BMI. What do you think of the results?
